business event:

 a coming together of people in one location for the purpose of sharing information and ideas, generating business or improving their business

meeting:

 a coming together; assembly
seminar:  meeting organised to discuss a specific topic

conference:

 meeting for consultation or discussion
congress:  formal meeting of representatives to exchange opinions on some matter of common interest
convention:  formal meeting or assembly for discussion
symposium:   Ancient-Greek drinking party (or philosophical or other friendly discussion!)

BECA defines a Business Event as:

Any public or private activity consisting of a minimum of 15 persons with a common interest or vocation, held in a specific venue or venues, and hosted by an organisation (or organisations). This may include (but not limited to): conferences, conventions, symposia, congresses, incentive group events, marketing events, special celebrations, seminars, courses, public or trade shows, product launches, exhibitions, company annual general meetings, corporate retreats, study tours or training programs.
